Marja is a forester, previously worked as a researcher and now as a coordinator. She has an Ph.D. in Silviculture, M.Sc. in Forest Management Planning and also trained in non-wood products industry. She coordinates flagship UNITE, which is a competence center where high-quality research with societal impact is pursue, and research community Forest and Bioeconomy (FOBI) in which research is international and of a high scientific standard, generating interdisciplinary research knowledge and solutions to global challenges. Marja works at the University of Eastern Finland, School of Forest Sciences.
