After graduating from University of Tokyo with a BA in Economics, Tomoko started her career at US investment banks. She gained her MBA from UC Berkeley and worked for Goldman Sachs in the Private Equity division. She left the finance industry when she had her first child and is now a mother of three. Inspired by the natural beauty, Tomoko and her husband moved to Hakuba in 2009 to raise their family. Through her experience in revitalising a local public school, Hakuba High School, she saw a great opportunity in offering world-class education in Hakuba, and opened Hakuba International School in 2022. She is a co-founder of Hakuba SDGs Lab.
